Kaweah Delta Health Care District

About Us

Kaweah Delta Health Care District (KDHCD) is a large organization with over 400 patient beds, 300 physicians, 25 psychiatrists and 27,000 inpatient admissions. We are academically affiliated with the University of California at Irvine School of Medicine (UCI) and accredited by the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) as a teaching institution.  Our West campus includes a busy, acute 50-bed inpatient Mental Health Hospital which is an easy 10 minute drive from the main medical/surgical campus.

KDHCD is also designated as a Level 3 Trauma Center, with a new helipad and busy Emergency Department with over 80,000 annual patient visits.  Here, Psychiatric Residents obtain experience in crisis intervention, risk assessment and consultation. Other psychiatry training sites include the KDHCD Rural Clinics, Tulare County Department of Mental Health, Good Samaritan Hospital and Kings View Behavioral Health. KDHCD also collaborates in research projects with Alliant International University (AIU) and the main UC Irvine campus in Orange County.

As a public, non-profit hospital and federal-designated underserved area, a key objective for the KDHCD Mental Health Hospital is providing care to underserved populations; poor, uninsured, immigrant farmworkers, homeless and the chronically mentally ill.  We emphasize integration with primary care, so patients experience the best in comprehensive, personalized care for all of their illnesses. We strive to provide patient-centered, evidence-based care to improve the health of our community.
